Hijab + hat? Yes, please! How to combine accessories in autumn

⏱ 4 min read

Do you know that?

You see a girl on Pinterest wearing a hat and hijab – so stylish. Then you try it yourself… and the hat flies off, the hijab slips, your bun is uncomfortable – in the end, everything's crooked. And that's the end of your fashionable autumn moment.

What's the problem here?

Hats look effortless on social media – but with a hijab, they're a real styling nightmare. Sometimes the bun is too high, sometimes the fabric is too thick. The result: pressure points, slippage, or completely ruined hijab looks. But you can combine hats and hijabs – if you keep a few tricks in mind.

Solution Toolkit

1. Bone first – secure the shape

A flat-tied hair tie or a tube-style hair tie forms the perfect base under hats and other headwear. It holds the hair together and creates a smooth surface. This makes it easier to put on a hat without the bun getting in the way or the hijab slipping.

2. Put the bun down

If you wear hats, position your bun low on the back of your neck . This way, the hat sits better and you avoid pressure points. Tip: The bun doesn't have to be perfect – the important thing is that it stays flat.

3. Lightweight fabrics for more support

Opt for crinkle or chiffon – both fabrics have little bulk and fit snugly against the head. This allows a hat to fit easily over it without slipping. Jersey only works in a thin weave, for example as a simple loop under a hat.

4. Adjusting hat sizes

Try hats one size larger or wear them slightly askew – this adds a stylish touch and prevents them from distorting the hijab. Optionally, you can attach a thin, non-slip strip (e.g., made of velvet ribbon) to the inside for a better fit.

5. Color Blocking? Yes!

If you're already layering, use accessories as pops of color . A light chiffon hijab with a dark fedora? Instantly looks editorial. Or a tone-on-tone combination for a more understated look. The key is to consciously choose contrasts.

Did you know?

Hats with a wide brim (e.g., fedora, bucket hat) are more hijab-friendly than narrow hats.
– A bone + crinkle + fedora creates an everyday look that is also windproof.
Chunky knit beanies can be easily pulled over jersey or chiffon hijabs – without slipping.

“I thought a hat plus hijab wouldn’t work – but with Crinkle & Bone it even works in the wind.” – Iman, 21

In short

Hijab and autumn accessories are not mutually exclusive. With a flat bone, lightweight fabric and a stylish hat, you're ready for any Instagram scene – or a stroll in the park.
